by Andrew Shadura 19 Mar '18

19 Mar '18

Hello everyone, The new Apertis 18.03 stable release is now available. You can find the full release notes at: https://wiki.apertis.org/18.03/ReleaseNotes Some highlights from this release: * Build infrastructure This release has focused on completing the migration to the new debos building pipeline which was started during the 17.12 release cycle and is now complete. The new pipeline is meant to be faster and more flexible, and also allow developers to easily build custom images on their machines. A design document has been added to cover the high-level concept and infrastructure setup required for debos based image building. Please see the release notes for the details on the new Git repositories for the infrastructure-related files. * API deprecations We have continued to mark obsolete or problematic APIs with the ABI break tag as a way to clear technical debt in future. * LAVAv2 migration We have dropped support for LAVAv1 jobs, having completed the transition started during the preparation of 17.12 release. The full release notes contain more details about all the work that has been poured in this release: https://wiki.apertis.org/18.03/ReleaseNotes Images are already available for download at: https://images.apertis.org/release/18.03/ Thanks to everyone who contributed! -- Cheers, Andrew

New Apertis 17.12.1 stable release available
by Emanuele Aina 05 Feb '18

05 Feb '18

Hello everyone, the new Apertis 17.12.1 update to the stable release is now available! You can find the full release notes at https://wiki.apertis.org/17.12.1/ReleaseNotes In particular in this update the Bash shell is no longer being shipped on minimal and target images, as Bash is now GPLv3 and those images are meant to provide a reference for deployments where some of the GPLv3 provisions can be excessively challenging to fulfill. This means that scripts relying on /bin/bash being available or /bin/sh supporting Bash-specific features won't work anymore. Those scripts need to be updated to use /bin/sh (which is now provided by the Dash shell) and should only rely on POSIX shell features. The full release notes contain more details about all the work that has landed in this release: https://wiki.apertis.org/17.12.1/ReleaseNotes Images are already available for download at https://images.apertis.org/release/17.12/17.12.1/ Thanks to everyone who contributed! -- Emanuele Aina www.collabora.com

22 Dec '17

Hello everyone, the new Apertis 17.12 stable release is now available! You can find the full release notes at https://wiki.apertis.org/17.12/ReleaseNotes Some highlights from this release: * New infrastructure to build images The new pipeline based on the debos tool is meant to be faster and more flexible, and also allow developers to easily build custom images on their machines. * LAVAv2 Our testing rig has been switched to LAVAv2, after LAVAv1 development has stopped. This gave us support for ARM64 boards and for running tests in QEMU, freeing resources on the hardware targets. * OSTree Preliminary work has been started to use OSTree as the basis for a robust and efficient update mechanism. * LXC template A template script for LXC makes using Apertis in a container as simple as possible, using OSTree for updates. Hello everyone, the new Apertis 17.09 stable release is now available! You can find the full release notes at https://wiki.apertis.org/17.09/ReleaseNotes Some highlights from this release: * Application framework running in containers The application framework shipped with Apertis no longer depends on privileged Btrfs operations, making it suitable to be used in containers as well. * Platform guide A new guide explains what the Apertis platform is, what it offers and what are the benefits of its approach: https://developer.apertis.org/platform-developers.html * Release branching improvements To make the release process as quick and reliable as possible, the branching process has been defined more clearly and it is now largely automated. * Inter-domain communications The inter-domain communications design now has some provisions for sharing large amount of static data as bulk transfers, such as firmware updates or map data for offline navigation. Re: [Devel] Problem(s) encountered with Apertis
by FIXED-TERM Gunti Vamsinag (CDG-SMT/ESM1) 16 Aug '17

Hello Suma, I am using the 17.06 release version. I was able to solve the 1st problem but are unable to figure out the 2nd one. Additionally, the documentation states that the desktop should contain shortcuts to start and stop the emulator --> these I do not see on my desktop. However, this is not so important for me right now. Right this moment, to get my workspace up and running would be sufficient. I shall go through the documentation and check again. Could you please mention the version of Apertis image that you are using? Normally we never faced any issue when inserting guest additions image. Did you try doing it by clicking on menu "Devices->Insert Guest Additions CD image" ? Can you please cross check if you went about installing your SDK image as described in the attached file (SDK_Installation)? Regarding problem 2: The wizard is now disabled. Thanks for pointing out that the devdocs are not updated. Please follow the attached document (Application Development)for instructions on creating Hello World program. Do get back to me in case the problem persists.
